Editorial

Editorial is an integral part of writing your book. It is unwise for you to edit your own work; you are too close and will miss mistakes. A professional editor will make all the difference to your work, taking your book to the next level.

I looked long and hard to find an editor for my book, ‘The Zombie Dialogues’, and while there are a lot of people out there who call themselves ‘editors’, they are just expensive proof readers. David’s input made the book what it is today and to say he went above and beyond to help make it happen, would be an understatement. If you have a book and you need an editor and help getting it published, David is your man. And now, for my sins, I’m halfway into my second book and David will be my first choice when it’s ready to be edited … it’s a cruel world.

Editorial Services

Editorial assessment:

If you want some initial information about your book I will give you a nice breakdown in a letter which will give critical feedback for you to develop your story.

Developmental editing:

This is the big picture of your story, you want to your characters to be believable and the plot to make sense. I will tell you what works and what is best left out and help you to develop your narrative.

Line editing:

This is where I help you with the creative nature of your book. Are you using the best word, descriptor, simile, metaphor etc. I have a vast knowledge and understanding of words that will help with the prosaic flow or your story.

Copy-editing:

This is the part of the edit where I will fix grammar, spelling, the tense used throughout your book and any inconsistencies within your book. Do not mistake this for Proofreading!

Structural editing:

I will help with your story’s structure and how it is laid out; do you need more chapters? Should a chapter be shortened? These are only some important considerations.

Proofreading:

This is the final process for your work and a hard copy of the work is required. I will meticulously check for mistakes that may make it through the editorial process, I will have a look at any oddities which may have slipped through the typesetting process.

Please note: if I have already edited the work I will be unable to proofread effectively and so a different proofreader will be required.
